When considering cosmetic breast surgery, women have options. They can choose to enhance shape and size or improve elevation and projection. Whether you decide to go larger or improve symmetry, breast augmentation improves or restores breast volume and firmness with implants.
After deciding breast incisions are right for you, there are other decisions to contemplate for the best possible outcome, including the type and size of implants, placement, and incision technique. All these come into play for natural-looking results you can be proud to show off.
Dr. Pugash employs three incision patterns for breast augmentation – transaxillary, areolar, and inframammary.
Transaxillary Incision
Dr. Pugash can insert the breast implants by making a small incision in the armpit tissue to provide a channel to the breast. Then, he positions the implants through the channel to an area behind the chest wall made up of tissue and muscle.
If placed in the armpits’ natural creases, these incisions heal relatively invisibly, so patients who prefer minimal scarring often choose this option.
Areolar Incision
With this technique, Dr. Pugash creates an incision along the lower rim of the deep pigment surrounding the nipple. Next, he lifts the tissue to create a pocket to insert the implant for placement. Lastly, he closes the incision and releases the patient for recovery.
The subsequent scars form on the border where the areola’s dark skin meets the lighter skin of the breast, effectively making it nearly impossible to notice.
This technique is suitable for most augmentations, except for patients with small areolas who choose larger silicone implants.
Inframammary Incision
Of all the breast implant incision placement options, the inframammary incision is the one most patients opt for. Dr. Pugash will situate these incisions along the natural creases under each breast. When they heal, any resulting scarring should be virtually invisible, even when you are naked or your bathing suit top rides high.
