Uneven Breasts? How Breast Augmentation Balances Your Beauty

Breasts that are noticeably different in size can make you self-conscious. You may pad your bra, or avoid revealing tops because you want to conceal an unusual looking chest. Breast deformities can be caused by many factors including injuries, tumors, infections, hormonal imbalances, and nursing. Though different-sized breasts are often outgrown through the course of adolescence, if the asymmetry persists by the time a woman reaches her 20’s, it is unlikely that the problem will correct itself on its own.

The solution is either a breast augmentation to increase the size of one or more breasts, or breast lift surgery. Dr. Eric Pugash and his team have experience performing both procedures at his surgery center in Vancouver.

Getting Breast Augmentation For Asymmetry

Noticeable unevenness is best addressed with a breast augmentation. This procedure increases the size of one or both breasts with surgical implants. At an initial consult, Dr. Pugash will discuss the different types of breast implant options available to you. Dr. Eric Pugash has extensive experience working with saline, cohesive gel, and highly cohesive gel devices (known as “gummy bear” implants). Please note that Canadian law requires a patient to be 18 to receive saline implants, and 22 to receive silicone gel implants.

If you are only implanting one breast, you might opt for a softer and more natural implant that matches the feel of your other breast. In addition, while you are increasing the size of your smaller breast, you might decide to increase your larger breast with a small implant to improve the size of both overall. The best candidates for breast augmentation are at or near their ideal weight and have finished having children, as nursing can affect breast shape and alter the results of surgery. Outpatient breast augmentation surgery can be performed at Skinworks, Cambie Surgery Center, and False Creek Surgical Center. Most patients can return to exercising within two weeks.

Getting a Breast Lift For Asymmetry

Another surgery to consider for breast asymmetry is a breast lift. This surgery not only solves problems with unevenness but also creates a look that is perkier and younger. Breast lifts and breast augmentations are often performed at the same time and can help you achieve a look that is larger, higher, and more symmetrical.

To perform this and other breast surgeries, Dr. Pugash makes an incision in one of three locations: circumferentially around the areola (“donut mastopexy”); around the areola and down vertically to the breast crease (“lollipop mastopexy”); or around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease (“anchor lift”). Following the incision, Dr. Pugash will lift and reshape the breast tissue to achieve your desired look. This procedure is performed on either one or both breasts, depending on your goal. Excess skin is also removed to create a more youthful chest appearance.

Breast lift surgery takes roughly two hours and can be performed under general anesthesia. The result is a higher, perkier breast, that is more likely to match its twin. A good candidate for breast lift surgery is at or near their ideal weight and has finished having children. Most patients return to work within a week or two, but it is advised to avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks.

Modern scientists and philosophers believe that symmetry and beauty go hand in hand. If you are experiencing breast asymmetry and want to correct it, don’t hesitate to schedule a consult with Dr. Pugash. Be sure to bring photos of the look that you want to help you achieve your desired goals.
