Your Top Five Plastic Surgery Questions Answered

Do youhave questions about plastic surgery? Dr. Pugash has answers for you. In this post, he addresses some of the most frequently asked questions that he hears from his new patients.

Is it Safe?

Plastic surgery, like any other surgery, has inherent risks. However, there are ways to mitigate those risks. A big part of doing so is choosing a doctor who meets the highest level of ethical standards. You can ensure this when you choose a board-certified plastic surgeon (rather than a cosmetic surgeon) to perform your procedure. Another way to minimize complications is to follow your doctor’s instructions pre- and post-surgery. Also, a thorough consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon before the procedure will include a complete discussion of your medical history so that both you and your doctor can be sure that you are able to handle surgery.

Will I Look Like I Had Work Done?

The goal of aesthetic plastic surgery is to give you natural-looking results that make you look like a better version of yourself. As a well-qualified and trained plastic surgeon, Dr. Pugash will use his years of experience performing a variety of plastic surgery procedures to achieve this goal. Once you’re fully recovered, others will attribute your younger, more attractive appearance to weight loss, a new hairstyle or getting adequate rest.

Will I Have Scars?

For plastic surgery procedures that involve making one or more incisions in the body, such as breast augmentation or eyelid surgery, scarring is inevitable. However, a plastic surgeon is trained to minimize the size and appearance of the scars by making incisions on the body where the resulting scars won’t be noticeable, or where they will be well-hidden by the body’s natural crease lines or by clothing.

What Will the Recovery Be Like?

The duration and other details of post-surgery recovery will vary based on the procedure. For example, Botox injections have very little recovery period, as patients are generally able to resume normal activities the day of treatment. On the other hand, the recovery period after breast augmentation will involve some swelling and possibly bruising of the chest, and the recovery period is usually one to two weeks, after which the patient can progressively return to normal daily activities and exercise.

Dr. Pugash educates his patients thoroughly at the initial patient consultation, making sure they know exactly what to expect during surgery and the recovery period.

Will the Results Last?

Although plastic surgery can enhance your appearance and make you look years younger, it cannot stop the aging process. However, it can stall the passage of time a bit by resetting our face or physique to an earlier starting point. We can also preserve our new look by maintaining healthy lifestyle habits — including eating right, exercising and staying out of the sun as much as possible.
