Why Lip Injections Can Really Make the Face | Dr. Pugash

Plump, youthful lips will never go out of style but over time, your lips can become thin and lined. While some women may not be seeking a sexy pout or increased attention on Instagram, they may wish to enhance their feminine appearance in a way that complements their other facial features. When it comes to lip injections, taking that smile to the next level is the goal!

Several factors contribute to your appearance, including lifestyle, ethnicity, and, of course, genetics. Women naturally have different eye and mouth shapes, skin texture, cheek volume, and even chin shape. Some want to accentuate their lips and mouth, and achieving this can build self-esteem and confidence.

Lip injections deliver long-lasting, natural-looking results with few side effects. They are relatively quick and easy to administer cosmetic procedures taking less than 30 minutes, requiring no surgery, and with results lasting 6—12 months.

Specific changes that you could enjoy through lip  enhancement include:

  • Restored volume to thin or aging lips
  • Smoother vertical lip lines
  • Improved symmetry between the upper and lower lip
  • Refined shape of thin or flat lips

Lip Injection Options

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Perlane® and Restylane® are popular lip enhancement options administered by Lesley Tennant, our aesthetic nurse injector. These dermal fillers achieve soft, natural-looking results that boost lip volume, enhance lip shape, and smooth vertical lip lines.

Benefits of Dermal Lip Fillers

  • Treatments take approximately30 minutes
  • The amount of filler  can be adjusted to  achieve the desired results
  • Little to no downtime—no need to take time off work
  • Improvements are usually noticeable immediately after treatment
  • Final results can be expected within two weeks

Side effects are typically mild and include temporary bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. Serious complications are extremely rare.

Considerations for Getting Lip Injections

  • To maintain results, treatments must be periodically repeated
  • Beautiful, natural results require an expert injector
  • A small percentage of patients may be allergic to some of the ingredients in the dermal fillers
  • You may choose to have a numbing cream—which could take up to 6  hours to wear off—applied to your lips before receiving the injections

To keep your lip filler treatment productive and safe, here are some recommendations to keep in mind before your treatment:

  • Avoid blood thinners
  • Avoid multivitamins, fish oil, and flaxseed oil
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Be sure to advise Dr. Pugash or Lesley whether you have a history of cold sores, well in advance of your treatment. You will be prescribed an antiviral medication to prevent a flare-up.
