Breast augmentation - Cohesive silicone gel

Cohesive silicone gel breast implants are solid gel devices that have entered use in Canada over the last decade.

Before and After Surgery

24 years old, 5'6", 145 lbs.
Mentor cohesive anatomic (tear-drop) 525cc implants in front of the muscle. B to D cup.

They are available in round or anatomic (‘tear drop’) form and usually have a fuzzy or textured surface. Although solid they do have a fairly natural feel, with the added advantage that they would not be expected to leak. Cohesive gel implants produce very little rippling compared to salines.

These implants are useful in the drooping breast where the implant may need to be placed in front of the pectoralis muscle. In these cases saline implants may produce visible rippling. Anatomic or tear drop shape cohesive implants can be especially useful in these situations.

Cohesive gel implants may require a relatively long incision to insert as they are pre-filled and cannot be compressed to the same degree as other implants.
